![]() My plan is stretched over the next five years. In order to do this I plan on buying a small plot of land which I can build a small structure on and live a simple life whilst doing blocks of work every 6-8 months and spend the rest of my time free. It seems that the trick is to accept that living life to gain money is a pointless endeavour and to break the habit of the consumer cycle. I work as a nurse in an intensive care unit and practically never see anyone. I'm in the process of working this out myself. I enjoy the peace I have now but my job is not satisfying and I am currently in talks with another company that I believe will be a good mixture of both worlds. Oddly enough I find myself missing the faster pace lifestyle of my old company. There was no pay change for me just a different life. in 15 months I have only had 3 phone calls to me during my off hours and now I leave my work cell in my truck at night and on the weekends. New company is very much a in the office from 8 - 5 situation. If I needed to work from home I did, if I wanted to show up at 10 am then I did. First job was very demanding but they knew that so my work schedule was my own. I just got off of a week of PTO with family and I was only called once and the person that called forgot I was on PTO. I found a company that reduced my staff size by over 70% and they were a 9 - 5 company that didn't work weekends. Even while on PTO I was on conference calls and having to deal with issues on a daily basis. I was spending 40 - 50 hours a week at the office but I was also getting woken up at least three nights a week, getting an average of 6 calls per weekend and I was always tied to my phone. ![]() The first company was very high stress and demanding. I run support / call centers and changed companies about 15 months ago and it has been awesome. Part of it depends on what you were consulting on.
